DAY 2 DNC: WOMEN POWER

“Women’s Rights are Human Rights”

- Hillary Clinton (and tonight Lena Dunham)

Lena Dunham and America Ferrera spoke at day 2 of the DNC tonight.  Dunham addressed Trump’s sexism against women and Ferrera addressed Trump’s racism against hispanics.  The first thing Lena said when she got to the podium was that Trump would rate her body a 2 (out of 10).  Ferrera said that Trump would consider her a rapist.  It was funny, but at the same time seriously depressing that a man who might actually say such things about innocent, beautiful people, could possibly be the next president of the US.  America Ferrera busted Trump’s racist (made up) stereotypes about hispanic immigrants.  Ferrera used her own experience as the child of Honduran immigrants, and as an alumna of the US public school system to remind us that although she was not rich, this country gave her an opportunity to be successful and to pursue her passion.  Lena touched on women’s rights.  She reminded us that if women want to have control over their own bodies, if they want paid family leave, and if women want to live in a country where the President does not objectify women’s bodies then, “deal us in”.

What They Wore

Lena wore an off the shoulder dress.  It was white, fitted, and classically cool.  America wore a black dress with white trimming, she could not have looked more elegant.  They both looked stunning, but of course who cares what they looked like, they represent something much greater.
