What is an It-Bag?
An it-bag is the bag that does it all. The classic definition of an it-bag is one that captivates the attention of those around you and it elevates any outfit. Surprisingly, your sophisticated and up to date piece of arm candy doesn’t have to be whatever is on this season’s hottest trends list. In fact, the realistic it-bag is one that satisfies the individual, a bag that is inexplicably perfect and inexplicably beautiful to its owner every time they use it.
An it-bag should make you feel confident, prepared, and true to yourself.
My personal choice of an it-bag? As embarrassing as it might seem, my ideal bag is one that I’ve had since my youth. My mother gave this bag to me as a six year old. I remember being overtaken by the immense feeling of maturity, beauty, and love every time I played with it. She gave me the bag so I could feel like a “big girl” and not be bummed out by the fact that my sisters absolutely refused to play with me. Wearing this bag today reminds me of the love that was present when my mother gave me my piece of ebony arm candy.

Despite the $2,344 dollar price difference, my it-bag resembles the Gucci Bamboo Classic textured shoulder bag (trust me I wouldn’t mind Alessandro Michele’s classic design hanging off my shoulder as well). In fact, it was Michele’s design that evoked the memory of a black, glossy, ovular, and label-less bag that reeked of post-it glue.
This bag is as sleek and glossy as a new book with its cover and wearing it has a similar effect to reading a mystery for the first time. Its presence and form is simple and familiar, yet the unknown conclusion drowns you with excitement and intrigue. The endless pairing possibilities with a simple-yet-elegant bag like this one is thrilling. Whether I choose to pair the bag with a little black dress or with jeans and a t-shirt, I’m confident that it will accurately be an extension and representation of who I am.
Trends shift as we go forward in our industrial society. Seasons change and designers (new and old) provide promising and innovative styles to look forward to in the upcoming months. With the promise of original groundbreaking designs, we should remember the inexplicably timeless pieces that somehow transcend the trendy it-bags, and remain precious pieces of arm candy for the individual.
